Pastores en Misión Integral

On the 24th of September, Tomas Yaccino (DCC) met with Dr. Axel Suquen, who is one of three volunteer coordinators of the RdC Guatemala, director of Asociacion Vida (an affiliate of the Luke Society), and pastor of a new church plant in Patzun. The goal of the meeting was to share, learn and serve the emerging network movement in Guatemala.

Axel, together with Carlos Herfst and Rodolfo Rodas, shares the role of national coordinator and is serving the movement by connecting with churches and church leaders who are seeking to express the Gospel more wholistically. On Wednesday, Axel and Tomas travelled to a small rural community north of Tecpan where 15 indigenous church leaders met to share their testimonies and understanding of the church’s role as change-agent in God’s redemptive plans.

These pastors, through the work of Asociacion Vida, are in the process of changing their world-views and deepening their understanding of the Gospel of the Kingdom of God that Jesus announced and that we, his body, are to demonstrate. In Guatemala, where 22 distinct indigenous languages are spoken among mainly rural ethnic groups in under resourced contexts, communications and networking become a challenge.
Yet, it is through this incredible diversity that the Kingdom of God is revealed in powerful ways.
The pastors group broadened their horizons throughout the conversation, and they were motivated to continue developing their local network as a part of the whole national and continental movement of the RdC. All participants were stimulated to continue planting the seeds of the Kingdom in their contexts.
On September 25th in the Metropolitan network region, a group of over 50 church leaders gathered in Guatemala City. The RdC coordinators invited the church leaders to re-launch the network in Guatemala City and commit to the following:

1. Strengthen the presence of the network on a national scale.
2. Continue to develop the network by sharing the vision, mission and essence of the movement
3. Continue to raise the awareness of the role of the church in society and biblical mandate of an integral mission
4. Continue to move forward with the plan initiated in 2006 via the network’s pastoral conferences on integral mission.
5. Strengthen and form coordinating communities on a regional level.

During the gathering, Carlos Herfst shared a biblical reflection on the church from the book of 1st Thessalonians, followed by Tomas Yaccino who shared a historical overview of the network movement and testimonies from the different national networks that are functioning throughout Latin America. Theologian Esteban Siwulka of the Latin American Theological Fraternity of Guatemala shared a historical overview of the integral mission of the church.
The group also participated in an exercise to share ideas to stimulate the network movement in Guatemala and discuss their hopes, dreams and concerns surrounding this connective initiative in their particular context.
Join us in praying for the our brothers and sisters in the Guatemalan Del Camino Network!
